We are pleased to announce that after months of hard work from our Directors, ESNBSC has officially been approved to participate in the 2027 Canada Games. Over the course of the 2026 competition season we will be selecting 2 athletes from each gender to join Team NB at the 2027 Winter Games in Quebec City.

-
Be committed to all team activities, workshops and competitions. Recognizing that there may be extenuating circumstances. This may include but not limited to injury, or illness.

-
As per the technical package
The selection process will occur in three phases:
Early 2026, Phase 1: A selection of the top 8 youth athletes (4 male and 4 female) will be made based on their performance at the youth provincial events. Selections will be made from youth categories based on their eligibility to compete at the Canada Games and their interest in representing NB for the Canada Games.
Dates for the competitions: February 21st at FitRocks Saint John & March 21st at Fredericton Bouldering CO-OP
Athletes must hold a Competitive Athlete membership in good standing with ESNBSC throughout the entire selection process up to and including the Canada Games. A lapse in membership may result in disqualification.
Mid 2026, Phase 2: esNBsc will host two workshops and two selection competitions to place to help Spring and Summer athlete progression and check in on their physical and mental health. For the mock competition each athlete will gain points based on their performance.
Late 2026, Phase 3: The selection will take place after a final competition.
If athletes are unable to make the selection competition(s) up to and including Phase 2 they may submit selection form [LINK] to the PSO as well as a letter of recommendation to challenge for a spot on the selection team. If accepted, they will be added to the selection team and will be evaluated based on their results moving forward. Athletes must be a New Brunswick resident prior to June 2027 to be eligible.
Athletes may only participate in the selection process for a single province, if participation in another province’s selection process is identified, the athlete will be disqualified from ESNBSC’s selection process.
Our full Selection Policy is available on our website at https://www.sportclimbingnb.ca/policies.
In addition to the selected athletes, Team NB will also include a staff consisting of a Head Coach and a Team Manager. These positions will be appointed by the Directors of ESNBSC based on an application process. These are volunteer positions and applicants must hold a Coach Membership in good standing with ESNBSC.
Any interested applicants must send a resume and a letter of intent highlighting their certification level, previous competition experience, leadership skills, and alignment with esNBsc’s values and policies. Applications are open and are to be sent to executivedirector@sportclimbingnb.ca no later than February 28, 2026. Please note that any Directors applying for a team staff position will be excluded from the decision-making process.
As we are sending male and female athletes to the Games, it is required that we have one male and one female staff member for the team.
Coaches registered in the Canada Games electronic registration system must be certified under the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) Competition Stream, Introduction Context (certified status) in Sport Climbing. All coaches are also required to complete NCCP Leading Drug Free Sport, Managing Conflict, and Manage a Sport Program modules. All Team Staff are encouraged to complete the Canada Games Coaching eLearning module available in The Locker (under Multi-sport).
We want to thank all of our members, volunteers and local climbing gyms for supporting this process. We could not do it without you.
